Karen Beattie, along with her husband, Dave Hopson, first visited the Luangwa Valley in 2006 with the intention of staying for three or four days.  They fell in love with Mfuwe and its people so much that they stayed for the whole month and kept returning for two or three months every year, spending half of their time in the Park and the rest trying to help the community.
Dave joins us following a career with the UK Ministry Of Defence. He is a highly qualified and experienced engineer and project manager.  His engineering skills, past property building and renovation experience, along with his large scale project management knowledge is perfect for the needs of building infrastucture in Zambia.

He is responsible for long term fund raising and development, fundraising and building a vocational training centre and is responsible for maintaining our website and IT systems. Dave can be contacted at

Karen has a long proven track record of starting and running a variety of successful small businesses and had a successful career in the travel industry in the UKbefore moving to Saudi arabia where she managed a large equestrian centre.
Her drive, enthusiasm and caring nature fits well with her business management skills to make her an ideal person for Project Luangwa.
Karen specialises in the management of small and medium size projects where local people are involved such as pupil sponsorship, Class to Class (school twinning) and girl-child education.  Basically, most of what is not building or finance tends to fall into Karen's lap.  Karen can be contacted at
